 David Flint read law and economics at Universities of Sydney, London and Paris, and is an Emeritus Professor of Law. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Murdoch University, Perth, President of the Australian National Federation of the English Speaking Union and National Convenor of Australians for Constitutional Monarchy (ACM).
He was Chairman of the Australian Press Council and Dean of Law the University of Technology Sydney between 1987 and 1997 and Chairman of the Australian Broadcasting Authority and Associate Member Australian Competition and Consumer Commission between 1997 and 2004.
He has published books and articles on topics such as foreign investment law, European Union law, the media, international economic law, Australia’s constitution and the 1999 Australian constitutional referendum. This included a book, The Cane Toad Republic, Wakefield Press, Kent Town, 1999. His more recent books have been The Twilight of the Elites, Freedom Publishing, North Melbourne, 2003, Malice in Media Land, Freedom Publishing, North Melbourne, 2005, and Her Majesty at 80: Impeccable Service in an Indispensable Office, ACM, Sydney, 2006.
He has contributed chapters towards several books, most recently A Successful Conservative Party Ready to Rebuild, in Peter van Onselen (ed.), Liberals & Power, Melbourne University Press, Melbourne, 2007, and Monarchy or Republic? in Keith Windschuttle, David Martin Jones and Ray Evans (eds), The Howard Era, Quadrant Books, Sydney, 2009.
In 1991, at Barcelona, he received a World Jurist Association award as World Outstanding Legal Scholar. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1995.
He is now involved in a major project to ensure Australians –especially but not only the young and those new to the country – are well informed about the way we are governed. This project is called The Crowned Republic and is centred on a new website, www.crownedrepublic.com.au , with an outreach programme into the schools. |
